How’s Your Profile Looking?

24 November 2023

When was the last time you updated your LinkedIn profile?

It’s one of those jobs that often falls by the wayside, but in this digital age it’s just as important as updating your resume.

Recruiters and employers alike scan LinkedIn during the research phase of the hiring process, and then again before they meet with a candidate.  Therefore, making sure your LinkedIn profile showcases you in the best light is essential.  It’s the first impression your potential employer will see, so make it count!

Here are some quick and easy updates you can make to refresh your profile:

  1. Check your headshot – is it recent? If not, time for an update!
  2. Background photo – choose an image that tells a story about you. LinkedIn users have anything from the beach to something related to the company they work for, or even an inspirational quote that has resonated with them.
  3. About you – make sure the summary is easy to read and that the information you want noticed is not buried towards the end of the text.
  4. Experience – always update when you change roles.
  5. Endorsements – it’s never easy to ask for reviews, but they add value to your profile for recruiters and potential employers.

Another way to be noticed on LinkedIn is to complete a LinkedIn Skills Assessment.  According to LinkedIn, people that have completed skills assessments, and display the badges earned, are 30% more likely to be hired.

There is a range of skills assessments available from the Microsoft and Adobe suites to iMovie, WordPress and Google Analytics.  They are generally a set of 15 multiple choice questions and once completed correctly in the required timeframe, a badge is issued to show that you are proficient in that area.

Just another way to ensure your profile is noticed and creates a good impression.
